Review: Sennheiser HD 595

Hi guys and girls,

I now have a review for you,f the Headphones from Sennheiser, the Audiophile type HD 595. I have killed a  lot of earphones in the last five years and it is now time for a good set of headphones which will live for some years.

I had to decide between the HD 555 and the 595. Both have a 6.3 cable with a jack to 3.5 so that you can plug it in every audio device out there. The differences are minimal, price-wise €26,-. The 555 has a gray plastic finish on the top and the 595 black leather. The 595 also comes with a tiny but efficient standard for the headphone. Technically the 595 can receive better low basses then the 555 and that would be it.

The box is very nice. You pull up a red carton thingy on top of the box and then it opens as displayed above. A nice way of presenting your product. The color on the other hand of the 595 is surprisingly not grey like the 555. I've seen the 555 in a shop and that is really grey. The 595 is kinda of... greenish/yellow or something. I don't know if the photo is clear enough to show it, I made it with my HTC Desire.

I must say the headphone fit gorgeous. The ear pads are around the ears not on them. There is no pressure on your ears which is good if you're going to listen for a long time. It is also very light. When I had them on, I didn't had the feeling that I had a headphone on my head.

Sound, just amazing. First I attached it to my speaker. Sound was crystal clear and it still needs be tuned. After that I attached it to my TV playing Modern Warfare 2 on the XBOX. No need to buy a separate headset for the console. I could hear the footsteps of my foes, gunshots if I was there. Now I can't killed from behind anymore which pissed me off. You can also use the headphones with your MP3 player and telephone. The sound channels very well. There is no need to bump up the volume. As Audiophile type headphone need  some power as they are usually connected to a amplifiers of some-kind, they are not suited for mp3 devices. The 555 and 595 don't have this issue.

Except for the color of the 595 the jack from 6.3 to 3.5 is quite a beast. Due the size it can be hassle to use it for mp3 device if you go outdoors. To solve this problem I've ordered a jack cable which looks like this:

Because of this you're extending the already 3 meter cable with additional 0.2m but the 3m is necessary for my TV usage. I do need a method to roll up the cable if I'm outdoors...

In my opinion this a very good headphone. If you want a better looking one and you have no need for the standard go for the 555. Of course, if you're not comfortable laying down 90+ euro's you can go for cheaper models from Sennheiser. Still, I advice you to go buy a 555 of 595. Especially the comfort of the headphones, built quality and being light is best of many worlds!!
